AVATAR: SAD ONLY
The visuals were great, no doubt. - and you can already anticipate the follow on business from computer games...
Yet on Avatar terms the one line of the woman: "This is sad only" was my favorite highlight of the movie. She said it when refusing to be thanked for having killed the attacking beasts of the forest to save the man.
Otherwise it was again a battle with lots of cawumm and carash. OK, the good won and the bad were driven out. Is that enough to be satisfied? - the evil soldier pierced twice through his heart by self-same woman, this time with glee and to the great relief of the audience. -
Same old , same old...dysfunctional feelings, no good solution.. sorry, I think this is sad only.
Victory of the soul, preponderance of true nature, sustainable foundation for a future society would have to be different.
Could be imagined : advanced beings could change dimensions, leave the battleground to the ones who want to battle. Smuggle video footage to earth, start a social movement, post on facebook...
Victory cannot ever be won without changing hearts and minds. So any avatar worth its name would have to tackle this task.
Killing a manifestation of violence does not take care of the problem. Violence needs to be dealt with in consciousness.
There was none of it in the movie. to the contrary. The "avatar", the male protagonist who moved into the "advanced" culture of the forest people finally led them in the fight against the intruders.
If anything he was an anti-avatar.
This movie is a Trojan horse. The package seems agreeable but the content is vile, well, no different from any other glorification of the old fascist dream of killing evil.
